2. Yakiniku Horumon Matchan

At Yakiniku Horumon Matchan in Nara, Japan, a muscular man cooks and serves you food. The concept has opened its first restaurant outside Japan in Hong Kong.

The restaurant is known for its budget-friendly prices, high-quality Wagyu beef and fun environment – for every pull-up you can manage in the restaurant’s pull-up challenge, you are awarded a free slice of meat.

3. Bamboo

Bamboo, in Lan Kwai Fong, is a bar specialising in Chinese baijiu cocktails. It also serves spicy Sichuan-style snacks to complement the traditional Chinese liquor drinks.

Head bartenders Felix and Cain have created innovative cocktails such as Not that Martini, made with yuzu-infused baijiu, gin and jasmine tea-infused Lillet Blanc.

4. Dzo Dzo

Dzo Dzo, at New Town Plaza Mall, serves high-quality Vietnamese dishes with a twist. The menu features items such as New Zealand beef tenderloin pho, crispy suckling pig marinated in a dozen fragrant spices and coffee-based drinks with tropical fruits.

5. 208 Italian

208 Italian takes over the spot where Italian restaurant 208 Duecento Otto used to be. There, chef Emanuele Canuto, who is from Piedmont, cooks regional favourites with a modern twist.

Highlights include Neapolitan-style pizzas and pasta dishes such as ravioli del plin, filled with veal, chicken, and pork. Wash it all down with signature cocktails such as its aged Negroni.

6. Minato

Minato promises a refined Japanese dining experience with panoramic views of Victoria Harbour. The restaurant will serve Japanese food from teppanyaki to omakase to kaiseki. Highlights include sushi rolls and premium cuts of seared beef.

7. C108

By day, C108 – a stone’s throw from the heritage and arts centre Tai Kwun – offers speciality coffee; by night, it transforms into an intimate bar.

The cafe and bar’s cocktail menu features twists on classics, such as the Vitamin Sea cocktail that blends gin with seaweed, pineapple and sesame oil.

8. 10/10 Ice Cream

For those heading to 10/10 Ice Cream, check out its signature flavour, the Lotus Biscoff crumbed soft-serve. Alternatively, order an ice cream waffle with berries – or go classic with a “Polish-style” tall swirl of soft-serve in a cup or cone.

9. Fufuland

Fufuland is a takeaway food chain that specialises in fluffy soufflé pancake ice cream sandwiches and has been a hit in mainland China. In July, it opened its first branch in Mong Kok – and it has now opened in Yuen Long.

Ice cream flavours include Hokkaido milk, matcha, Oreo and mint chocolate.

10. Akatsuki by Konishi

The two-storey Zest by Konishi, which serves French-Japanese cuisine, is transforming one of its floors into an izakaya concept for a relaxed evening dining experience. The menu features homestyle Japanese dishes, tempura and appetisers. Drinks include sakes and Japanese beer.

11. Que

Japanese-Western fusion restaurant Que opens its seventh branch in the city this month, and highlights on the menu include sushi tacos with Italian balsamic vinegar, a range of desserts by award-winning pastry chef Rin Horiuchi and iced teas in flavours such as strawberry and peach, and yuzu and shiso.

12. Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba

Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba, known for its lo mein or dry noodles, has opened a new Hong Kong branch. It makes its noodles in-house daily, and they are served with sauce instead of soup. The new outlet serves an exclusive duck breast and black truffle bowl.

13. Auntie Anne’s

The American chain selling freshly made pretzels is making its return in Hong Kong. All the classic flavours, such as pepperoni, cream cheese, cinnamon and almond, will be available. While crunchy varieties of the snack are usually paired with beer, fans of the brand will be happy to know that the franchise’s lemonade is also on offer.
