We’ve all seen the Chinatown dragon display for Chinese New Year 2024, and for the lack of a better word, it looks pretty toot lah.
But don’t be too disappointed in Singapore’s Chinese New Year display game yet. Just wait till you see what’s in store for your viewing pleasure at Marina Bay Waterfront — 1,500 lighted drones forming the shape of a dragon.
Chinese New Year Light Show at Marina Bay Waterfront; 1,500 Lighted Drones to Form the Shape of a Dragon
Need a way to impress your in-laws this Chinese New Year?
Why not bring them down to Marina Bay Waterfront to watch the Chinese New Year light show being put up by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Marina Bay Sands (MBS) and United Overseas Bank (UOB)?
The 10-minute light show, titled ‘The Legend of the Dragon Gate – Drone Show by the Bay’, will tell the myth of Long Wang, or the Dragon King, to usher in the Year of the Dragon.
You can even study the myth beforehand to impress your in-laws with your knowledge of Chinese mythical tales. Congratulations, you know something aside from Journey to the West.
You’ll definitely be the favourite relative after this — ang pao confirm plus chop bao until big big.
The light show will feature not one, not two, but 1,500 lighted drones forming the shape of a dragon — it’s bound to make your jaw drop.
Perfect for an Instagram story too; what’s not to love about this light show?
Light Show Happening Across Six Nights in February 2024
If you’re worried that you’ll miss the light show, fret not. STB, MBS, and UOB have already accounted for this — the light show will be happening for six nights across February 2024.
You can catch the light show at 8 pm on these six nights:
- 6 February (Tuesday)
- 10 February (Saturday)
- 11 February (Sunday)
- 16 February (Friday)
- 17 February (Saturday)
- 18 February (Sunday)
If you’re still unconvinced, wait till you hear this — it’s free.
Yes, you read that right. You could stroll to the waterfront and watch the light show on any of the six nights.
After the Chinese New Year light show, you can even stay to watch ‘Spectra – A Light & Water Show’, another light show that runs at 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm on the same six nights.
That is, if your legs aren’t already ‘jelly’ from standing at the waterfront lah.
To top it all off, UOB cardholders in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam stand to enjoy exclusive promotions — from hotel packages at MBS to dining privileges at signature restaurants like KOMA and special discounts at Gardens by the Bay, suffice it to say that UOB cardholders are headed for ‘valuetown’.
You can find out more about the promotions here.
