On 4 June 2024, a video of an 18-year-old teenager evading an enforcement officer, Zdulfika Bin Ahakasah, went viral. The footage showed the officer crashing into a road divider while in pursuit.
Today (6 June), the teenager, who remains unnamed as he was 17 at the time of his alleged methamphetamine consumption in August 2023 (those below 18 are protected under the Children and Young Persons Act), appeared in court to face multiple charges.
These included dangerous motorcycle riding, weapon possession, and drug consumption.
Unrepresented in court, the teenager stated, “I gambled my life as much as he gambled his. The death, I may be one of the contributing factors for the death, but I am not to be blamed.”
His statement shocked the courtroom, eliciting a gasp from the gallery.
Details of the Charges
The teenager appeared via video-link from his place of remand on Thursday.
He faces six charges related to traffic, drug, and weapon offences, with five of them occurring on 4 June, the day he fled from the LTA officer.
He was found to be riding without a driving licence or insurance.
In addition to the traffic offences, he allegedly possessed a Samurai sword at Block 502A Woodlands Drive 14 on Tuesday.
As mentioned earlier, he can’t be named as his earliest alleged offence was for consuming methamphetamine on 7 Aug 2023, when he was 17 years old.
The prosecution requested a two-week adjournment to complete investigations into possible additional charges, including drug, traffic, and cheating offences.
The teenager is scheduled to return to court on 20 June 2024.
