If you ask us, there is never an age limit on wanting to break a few dance moves.
58-year-old Japanese lecturer Toru Utsumi has captured the hearts of netizens with his cute dance videos.
In most of them, he is decked in a full suit before or after work.
His positive attitude and motto “Today is the youngest day of my life” have led netizens to christen him as “The Dancing Uncle” and “Cartwheel Old Man”.
Toru, who hails from Kurume, Fukuoka, started dancing at soul bars eight years ago. In a bid to better his skills, he enrolled into a dance school at the age of 52.
And yes, it seems Toru’s skills were good enough for him to enter the RunUp Dance Competition 2023, coming in as one of the finalists in the Over-40 solo category.
In an interview with a Japanese online magazine, he shares that his love for dance has influenced not only his posture but his grooming, clothes, and behaviour, citing that he is conscious of being watched by others.
He also shares that he has always loved dancing as a kid but stepped away from it after getting married and having kids.
Today, he takes song requests which makes up for his content online.
Since then, he has amassed quite a catalogue of videos, with more than 300 to date and keeping to at least one clip daily.
If you ask us, this writer’s personal favourite is seeing Toru jive to ‘Crank That’ by American rapper Soulja Boy.
The video has since been viewed more than 1.7 million times on Instagram.
Another clip of Toru dancing to ‘Gumo’ by American rapper 6ix9ine has also gone viral and has earned more than 2.4 million views.
Toru has gotten so popular that according to him, there is now a waiting list of requests that extends till February 2025.
Wait a minute, did everyone already book Toru to produce a dance clip for Christmas and Valentine’s Day?
