A newlywed couple from Kuching have proven it’s never too late to find true love.
Earlier this month, Molly Teo, 81, and Richard Wong, 66, got married in an intimate ceremony held at the Sarawak national registration department office.
The couple met a year ago at elderly care centre Rumah Seri Kenangan (RSK) in Kuching. Molly has been living at RSK since 2005, while Richard became a resident in 2023.
Both of Molly and Richard’s partners passed away due to health issues years ago.
Their union was witnessed by Sarawak’s state minister, the director of the national registration department, and their close family members.
Speaking to Malaysian media, Richard said he was drawn to Molly’s extroverted personality. Molly, on the other hand, fell in love with Richard’s thoughtfulness and gentle demeanor.
Molly said Richard was the one to initiate their first conversation, and they had bonded through religion. They are both Christians, and according to Molly, they would “read the Bible and pray together” at night.
Now that they are married, Molly and Richard will live together in a couple’s unit at RSK. The care centre is home to 61 seniors, with Molly and Richard being the only married couple there.
The couple’s love for each other was clear during the ceremony, with Molly grinning as she glanced adoringly at Richard, and the latter tearing up as he held Molly’s hand.
Many were touched by the couple’s story, echoing the sentiment that there’s really no age limit when it comes to true love.
