Mindef Makes ‘Looking For A Man In Defence’ TikTok Video Featuring Military Officers At Shangri-La Dialogue

By now, every other TikTok user would have heard the viral “I’m looking for a man in finance” song by content creator Megan Boni aka Girl on Couch.

The song suggests that pairing with someone from the finance industry is more fun, and with more disposable income to enjoy.

But if you ask us, we are vibing more with the Ministry of Defence’s (MINDEF) version which was filmed during the recent Shangri-La Dialogue.

A woman at the start of the video lip-synchs to the words: “I’m looking for a man in defence, uniform, 5’9, nice eyes”. The video then pans to military personnel from countries like Oman, New Zealand, Germany, Philippines, China, UAE, and of course, Singapore.

We think Mindef’s version runs a little more realistic – how many 6’5 blue-eyed dudes, as the original song goes – are you going to find in this part of the world?

While most of the military men seemed polite and cordial, some like Japan and New Zealand hammed it up a little more for the cameras.

The video has garnered more than 1.2 million views since it was posted yesterday (Jun 2).

Netizens were naturally tickled seeing these usually stoic figures game for such a trend and flooded the comments section.

“How did y’all make them agree?” asked an impressed netizen while another demanded the “intern needs to be given a raise now”.

One even wondered “How many layers of approval and coordination this 18s video had to go through”.

A netizen even asked that the millennial manager be given props for convincing the higher uppers that a Gen-Z intern’s idea would work.

Another round of bonuses coming up for the brains behind the video?
