Is ex-Mediacorp actor Xie Shaoguang finally making a comeback?
On Sat (Jun 1), the 62-year-old former actor, who left showbiz in 2005, surprised everyone when he created a personal Instagram account.
For his first post, the five-time Star Awards Best Actor posted a reel of himself with Ivy Low, the head of Mediacorp’s talent management arm The Celebrity Agency, hanging out at a cafe with Ivy’s dog, Anna.
“A reunion with an old friend feels like a continuation of our fate from yesterday,” he wrote.
Shaoguang’s account was quickly followed by many of his former colleagues like Zoe Tay, Chew Chor Ming, Huang Biren and Xiang Yun.
He was also warmly welcomed onto the platform in the comments section.
“Hellllloooiiooooo!!!!!!” Bryan Wong gushed enthusiastically while actress Lin Meijiao wrote: “Hello Shao…” in caps with a heart-eye emoji.
When 8days.sg reached out to Ivy to find out more about their meet up, she tells us that she and Shaoguang are old friends as she used to manage him when he was still with Mediacorp.
“We remained in touch over the years. On the side he’s been helping some of my artistes on [private] acting training,” she shares.
She says she and Shaoguang were merely having a “doggie and coffee catch-up” over the weekend and they chatted about “the new media landscape and how it has evolved over the decades”.
That was also when Ivy decided to psycho Shaoguang into exploring the social media space.
“Turns out he was pretty open, hence his first IG post was born on the spot,” she says.
Ivy also shares that though Shaoguang is a “pretty private person”, he keeps current with the latest drama trends and is “still brimming with creative ideas”.
Here comes the million dollar question: Is Shaoguang going to act again?
“He’s a go-with-the flow guy so it’s too early for further comments if he’s stepping back into the scene. Let’s see what happens…,” she teases.
Hmm… so, it’s not a no?
