Hyrox Singapore might have come and gone last Sunday (June 29), but fitness enthusiasts posting their results on social media is still going strong.
Among the tsunami of inspiring finishes, our sharp-eyed colleague spotted a familiar name among the contenders who took part in the gruelling event.
In a post to the Hyrox Singapore Instagram, it was revealed that former Minister of State Teo Ser Luck scored a podium finish, coming in second for the 55-59 age group with an impressive timing of 1:34:22.
He was two seconds behind eventual champ, David Cartwright from the UK.
This is also Ser Luck’s first time taking part in Hyrox Singapore.
A quick check on the ex-MP for Punggol South’s Instagram saw that he didn’t boast about his results but showed a lengthy post on Monday (July 1) titled ‘The unsung hero’.
Ser Luck had chosen to shine the spotlight on Rhesa Ho for the race, though it seems during the writing of the post, he had no idea who she was.
Arriving at final station knackered, Ser Luck wrote, “I stared at the wall ball as if asking for mercy before I began.”
“Then came a firm but friendly voice to start the workout. The volunteer had to use a fair amount of energy to raise her voice loud and clear above the noise,” he added.
Ser Luck went on to describe the painful reps (he had to complete 100) and how at one point he had lost count.
But Rhesa kept count while reminding him on his progress.
“As the cheering faded in the background, she didn’t stop encouraging me to keep going every single time I stopped or when I picked up the ball,” wrote Ser Luck.
He went on to say he “pushed on drawing energy from her clear voice and words”.
After completing the station, Ser Luck chose not to get an even better timing by immediately running to the finish line, instead stopping to thank her, writing, “Can’t express enough how thankful I am”.
Ser Luck ended his post with a shoutout to all the volunteers saying their “efforts might seem minor but it’s significant so that we can all have a safe and enjoyable experience”.
“Participants would unknowingly form a bond with volunteers in a race. Let’s all remember to appreciate them,” he added.
It seems word got to Rhesa who commented on the post thanking Ser Luck for the kind words and said, “Congrats on your podium! Should have pushed you harder for 1st. See you in August!”
The next Hyrox Singapore race is set to happen August 31 and September 1 at the Singapore Expo.
This isn’t the first time Ser Luck, who has two kids in their twenties, has participated in a fitness race and is a proud finisher of multiple Ironman triathlon races.
Since relinquishing his Minister role in 2017, Ser Luck has gone on to be involved in a couple of startups and is one of the founders of investment company, Helicap.
