Hong Kong actress Joyce Chan Yin Hang, best known for her role in the long-running TVB period sitcom, Virtues of Harmony, which aired from 2001 to 2002, has largely faded from the public eye.
Hailed as one of TVB’s “Five Beauties” in the ‘90s, the 47-year-old was recently revealed to have secretly given birth to a daughter, after she was seen picking up the three-year-old from nursery.
The news came as a surprise to many as Joyce has long claimed to be single.
Earlier this week, Joyce confirmed on social media that she has a daughter, saying “this good news should have been announced three years ago”.
She declined to reveal the identity of her partner, only describing him as “a simple, low-key person [who is] not in the entertainment industry”.
A close friend of the actress later told Hong Kong’s Sing Tao Daily that Joyce’s partner is the driver of actor Dayo Wong.
The pal praised him for being very caring towards Joyce, and a quiet gentleman.
“When they join us for meals, he is always ‘behind the scenes’, quiet, serving tea and water, picking her up and dropping her off, they are a sweet couple. All these years, they have never split, they did not go public with their relationship due to pressure.”
The friend added that Joyce is very protective of her partner: “In front of friends, she gives him face, never mentioning his job as a driver to avoid hurting his self-esteem, and especially not revealing he is Dayo Wong’s driver to avoid trouble.”
