Couple Holds Gender Reveal Pro Wrestling Match; Netizens Applaud Fun Idea

Gender reveal parties sure are hot right now in Singapore. After the viral post of the influencer with her lion dance gender reveal party, a user on Reddit posted a video of another unique gender reveal they attended.

The method? According to the OP, their friend had a gender reveal pro wrestling match party.

It took place at Singapore’s Grapplemax Pro Wrestling Studios, on an unspecified date “last weekend”, so 3 or 4 August. They also posted several videos on Instagram, as did a hired videographer.

The friend turned out to be one of the wrestlers at Grapplemax, “YC”, also known as Mr Ong.

Mr Ong and his wife had been expecting a baby and decided to reveal it in a pro wrestling match.

The two opponents, one in blue and one in pink with hair tied like pigtails, battled it out in the wrestling ring. If blue won, then the baby was a boy, and if pink won, the baby was a girl.

Mr Ong’s wife knew the gender of their baby, but he himself had been left in the dark along with the party guests, watching in anticipation to see the results.

The audience was invited to bet on who would win via a sticker chart, with the number of picks for “girl” being slightly higher.

The two wrestlers gave an impressive back-and-forth performance with jaw-dropping moves hit on each other.

Blue, fittingly, landed what appeared to be a “Blue Thunder Bomb” on Pink.

They hit several classic pro wrestling moves on each other, like the “RKO” (outta nowhere).

At one point, they brutalised each other with balloons at the ringside. Somebody stop the match!

Pink showcased his athleticism with a beautiful “Tornado DDT” that flipped Blue over his own head.

Each move was met with awed cries of “ohh!” by the audience, and punctuated by the loud bang of bodies hitting the ring’s canvas.

The suspense of who would come out on top left Mr Ong visibly tense from anticipation.

Finally, Blue bounced off the ropes and hit Pink with a springboard forearm that dropped Pink to the mat.

He hooked the leg and pinned his opponent. The referee counted 1! 2! 3! The baby was a boy!

The audience members erupted into cheers, and both Mr Ong and his wife were leaping up and down in celebration.

Also at the party was a buffet of various scrumptious food items for guests to enjoy.

Seemingly to confirm the result, the couple posed with a balloon. It internally exploded into blue confetti, giving Mr Ong an unexpected scare.

Internet Finds Party Creative and Fun for All Involved

Netizens praised the gender reveal party, partially because it didn’t end with a forest being burnt down, but also because it seemed like everyone there had a genuine good time.

“Who says Singaporeans don’t know how to have fun?” Someone else replied.

Others still held their negative opinions on gender reveal parties strong, asking “Why do some parents need [to] turn a gender reveal into a circus show?”

In a rare scenario, most commenters defended the gender reveal party, saying it was just people having fun.

While it may be a first for Singapore, pro wrestling gender reveal parties are actually oddly common in America.

With two creative gender reveals back-to-back, one can only wonder what’s next on the list.
