New Dad Loh Kean Yew Said He Felt Guilt When His Son Was Born As He Was Asleep & Away Training For Olympics

Fresh off his Paris Olympics journey where he reached the quarter-finals, Singapore badminton star Loh Kean Yew returned home to a new addition to the family.

“Finally coming home to my medal,” wrote Kean Yew in an Instagram post with a picture of him cradling his newborn child.

It was revealed that his wife gave birth to a boy in late July while the 27-year-old was in Denmark for a training camp to prepare for Paris 2024.

“Welcome to the world, our precious little one,” he added before ending off the post “I… should add ironing into my daddy duties”.

Kean Yew went on to thank everyone for the support he received during his wife’s pregnancy journey, even crediting his in-laws for “taking extra care of her” while he was away.

In an interview with the Straits Times, Kean Yew shared that the first emotion he felt when he learnt his wife had given birth was that of guilt as he was asleep when his mother-in-law texted him the good news along with photos of his newborn son.

He added that he couldn’t stop smiling after.

According to ST, Kean Yew had flown from Paris to Penang via Singapore on August 5 to see his wife and newborn son.

Kean Yew proposed to his now-wife in December 2022, tying the knot in the first quarter of last year.

However, the couple has been incredibly private, with Kean Yew never once revealing her face.

Netizens flooded the comments congratulating Kean Yew on becoming a father.

Danish badminton player and close pal Viktor Axelson who bested Kean Yew in the quarter-finals also left a comment, writing: “The best! Congrats to you and can’t wait to see his massive calves.”
