M1 enhances 5G network with AI powered automation – Telco

Singapore’s mobile network operator, M1 has planned to enhance the capacity and performance of its 5G Standalone (SA) network.

It is conducting a proof of concept for both IP and microwave networks.

This will allow the company to test and validate the capabilities of AI and machine learning in managing and optimising networks.

M1 aims to leverage real-time observability and software-defined networking (SDN) automation to optimise network resources, reduce latency, and improve overall connectivity.

It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ericsson to utilise AI-powered Transport Automation Controller solution.

M1’s chief technical officer, Denis Seek, said the company aims to modernise 4G and 5G mobile transport networks with advanced automation capabilities and AI.

With the Ericsson Transport Automation Controller, the aim is to deliver higher quality network performance and prepare the network for customers with advanced 5G Standalone use cases, Seek added.

The AI-driven solution will enable data-driven decision-making, allowing M1 to address network issues, reduce human errors, and minimise troubleshooting time.

According to the company, its transport network is built with Ericsson Router 6000 IP nodes, along with fiber and MINI-LINK microwave connections, supporting the nationwide 5G SA network.
