Here’s what happened at a condo.

Food Delivery Rider Left Food With Security Guard; Guard Simply Threw Food Away

On 16 September, a video of a dispute between a security guard and a food delivery rider, filmed from the rider’s point of view, went viral.

The incident occurred on Sunday (15 Stepmeber) around 4:40 PM at a condominium in the eastern part of Singapore.

The customer had not provided a unit number on the order, and when the delivery rider arrived, he couldn’t contact the customer, which led to the clash.

The argument took place at the entrance of the condo near the security post. The delivery rider explained that he had tried to contact the customer multiple times without success and had already sent a text message.

He had wanted to leave the drink outside the security post for the customer to collect later.

However, the security guard grabbed the drink and, pointing outside, said, “If you leave it here, I’ll throw it away.”

He explained that “the security post cannot accept items” and emphasized that he must follow the condominium’s standard operating procedures and cannot accept residents’ belongings.

Despite this, the delivery rider didn’t take back the drink. He repeatedly urged the guard not to throw the drink away because the customer has paid for it.

However, the guard insisted that the rider wait for the customer to retrieve the drink. The standoff continued, with the guard becoming more agitated and threatening to discard the drink if it was left at the security post.

After the prolonged argument, both parties remained firm in their positions.

Eventually, the frustrated guard tossed the drink bag back at the delivery rider, causing the beverage to spill all over the ground.

And yes, it was bubble tea.

Security Guard’s Response

Shin Min Daily News managed to speak to the security guard on Monday.

According to the 63-year-old security guard, when the delivery rider arrived at the condominium, he didn’t know the exact delivery address and requested to leave the drink at the security post.

“I asked him to call the customer, as we are not allowed to hold items at the security post. However, the rider said he couldn’t reach the customer and then placed the milk tea on a chair outside the post.”

He said he repeatedly reminded the rider that he couldn’t leave the item there and warned him that if he didn’t comply, the drink would be thrown away. Despite the warnings, the delivery rider persisted.

When asked if throwing away the drink was inappropriate, he explained that it wasn’t his preferred course of action, but the rider’s repeated disregard for the warnings left him furious, which is why he disposed of the milk tea as the rider was leaving.

He said that it wasn’t in line with the management’s rules, and for safety reasons, he couldn’t allow the rider to leave items lying around.

Nevertheless, he added that in the future, he would be more cautious; if a delivery rider doesn’t know the exact delivery address, he wouldn’t even let them enter the condominium premises.

So please; key in your unit number.
