2 People Died After Fire Broke Out in Kaki Bukit Industrial Building

We’re not sure which fire god we’ve angered, but the recent spate of fires we’ve seen in Singapore sure has lit a spark of concern.

From PMD fires and robots sparking flames in hospitals and airports, to toddlers accidentally turning play into peril, and blazes engulfing homes and shopping centres—Singapore has been a hotspot for intense situations.

Adding to this fiery saga is the recent tragedy at the Synergy@KB building in Kaki Bukit.

Around the lunchtime rush (12.55 pm) on September 19, flames engulfed a unit on the fifth floor of the industrial complex, trapping two people instead.

Despite the efforts of firefighters from Paya Lebar and Tampines Fire Stations, the men were discovered unconscious and later declared dead.

The entire floor was smoke-logged, making the firefighting efforts even more challenging as they battled the blaze with two water jets.

Meanwhile, outside, the situation wasn’t much calmer. Hundreds of workers had been evacuated and left sitting by the roadside.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Here’s how you can stay sharp if the flames rise in your workplace or home

  1. Exit Plan: Always know your way out, no matter where you are. Those exit signs are there for a reason.
  2. Swift: Fire alarm rings? Better safe and outside than sorry.
  3. Stay Low: If you’re caught in it, keep your head down where the air is clearer.
  4. Stairs over Elevators: In a fire, elevators are a no-go. Take the stairs and keep it moving.

Don’t forget, SCDF’s got a ton of tips on their website and the myResponder app is golden for emergency prep.
