5 must-see exhibitions and shows in Hong Kong this weekend, September 27-30

From ancient Chinese artefacts to new works by top American artist Mark Bradford, the past week has seen no shortage of exciting arts exhibitions open in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, the second Asia+ Festival kicks off with a multimedia British-Sino-Indian dance collaboration called The Accountants.

1. The Origins of Chinese Civilisation

Conventional historical records in China date back to the bronze-age Shang dynasty, which ruled from 1600BC to 1046BC. That means the first roughly 1,400 years of China’s five millennia history are shrouded in myth.

And so in 2002, the Beijing government launched the “Project to Trace the Origins of Chinese Civilisation”, which ramped up archaeological surveys and research to map out the earliest human lives in the area that became modern China.

Some of the project’s remarkable discoveries are now on show in Hong Kong.
