Atlanta Restaurant Closings September – Eater Atlanta

It is always difficult to say goodbye to a favorite restaurant, especially one that’s been around for a while. Here’s the latest round of restaurant closures around the city.

Damsel, Atlanta’s first cabaret restaurant, announces sudden closure

Owner Dave Green (also of The Select in Sandy Springs and Charleston) has announced the closing of Damsel at Chattahoochee Food Works on Instagram. The cabaret restaurant saw immense popularity when it opened earlier this year in March, offering diners dinner with a show.

“Despite our best efforts, we encountered many challenges, and unfortunately, the concept has proven unsustainable at this time,” said Green in a statement. “I have so much gratitude for all of our staff, performers, and each person who helped bring this dream to life.”

Green says he will be refocusing his efforts on The Select. Damsel was known for its lobster cones in a swan vessel and its glitzy musical numbers, including tap, vocal, and jazz performances directed by Grammy Award-winner and Tony Award-nominee Otis Sallid. The restaurant was part of Eater Atlanta’s most anticipated restaurant openings and hottest restaurants in Atlanta roundups.

The General Muir is closing its Sandy Springs location

The General Muir in Sandy Springs will hold its last service this weekend on September 29, according to their Instagram post. They say the second location, which opened in 2021, could not overcome the challenges from the pandemic.

“While we had many fans and loyal customers, ultimately we simply did not get to the level of business we needed to overcome those challenges,” the caption reads.

The original location of the popular deli in Emory Point will remain open.

Vietnamese restaurant Pho Cue closes in Glenwood Park

After three years, Vietnamese barbecue closed on September 13 in Glenwood Park. Cheekily named Pho Cue started as a pop-up in 2020 by Julian Wissman and Brian Holloway (formerly at Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q), where the duo cooked Vietnamese-inspired Texas barbecue. A brick and mortar space for the pop-up opened in 2021 next to Gunshow and Vesper. The reason behind the closing is not disclosed but the pop-up may continue.

The Bookhouse Pub on Ponce to close by end of year

Atlanta staple The Bookhouse Pub on Ponce de Leon announced that the local favorite will close its doors by the end of the year. The owners announced they had sold the pub in 2023 but it remain open for two more years. This stretch of Ponce de Leon has been under plenty of new development, with Ponce City Market arriving in 2014, and later plans by developer Portman to purchase adjacent bars, including MJQ and Drunken Unicorn, for new redevelopment projects.
