Man Finds Cigarette Butt In Curry Puff, Unhappy He Was Offered 90 Cents Refund By Stall Owner

A man from Puchong, Malaysia recently bought a curry puff from a street vendor… only to find an ‘extra ingredient’ added to his snack.

The man had eaten a good half of his puff when he discovered a brown cigarette butt mixed into the curry potato filling.

How gross is that?

He then did what any of us would do. He took the curry puff back to the vendor to complain.

Speaking to Malaysian media Chinapress, the angry customer said: “How did the cigarette butt end up in the curry? Did the store vendors pick up their ingredients from the trash? This couldn’t have dropped in by accident!”

According to the customer, the vendor acted as though nothing serious had happened and offered him a 3 ringgit (S$0.90) refund.

3 ringgit was what he paid for the curry puff.

The customer, displeased by the vendor’s lack of remorse, also believed that the entire batch of curry puff filling may have been contaminated if the cigarette butt had fallen inside during the cooking process.

“There is a serious lack of quality control, supervision, and sense of responsibility. If a customer were to fall sick after consuming these [curry puffs], who’s going to take responsibility?” he complained.

He believed that such vendors should be held accountable, and “severely punished” for lacking basic hygiene practices.

While some netizens were disgusted by the vendor’s behaviour, there were others who felt the refund was fair, and that the customer was being too hard on the stall owner.

“We’re all trying to make a living, if you’re so scared, then don’t buy food from roadside stalls,” read one comment.
