As Singaporeans closely observe the ongoing trial of Worker’s Party (WP) Chief Pritam Singh, it seems someone else other has gotten just as much online attention.
Pritam’s lawyer Andre Jumabhoy has become an unexpected celebrity after netizens noticed him accompanying the Leader of the Opposition to the courts.
Some have even gone as far as to compare his “macho looks” to online meme, Gigachad.
Yes, Gigachad is not a real person, but you can’t deny the similarities when you put their pictures side-by-side.
After photos of Andre and Gigachad were posted online, netizens commented saying they noticed the similarities for a while now.
At the same time, another spotted Andre’s skull-print jacket liner and wrote, “Dude is ready for some legal combat”.
A netizen even went as far to gush and wrote, “One look and I like him already”.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Andre was a former state counsel who worked for Singapore’s Attorney-General Chambers (AGC) from 2011 to 2016.
While at AGC, he also became the Deputy Senior State Counsel in 2014.
Andre’s law firm’s website describes his expertise in white-collar crimes such as insider trading, bribery, high-value frauds, money laundering, and breach of director’s duties.
He also has experience with criminal cases such as murder, drug trafficking, corruption, and fraud offences.
One of his most high-profile cases as a Deputy Public Prosecutor was 2016’s ‘sex-for-grades’ trial which involved an ex-NUS professor.
