With so many incidents of tourists being called out for their bad behaviour, you would think people would be more mindful when they are overseas.
Evidently not.
A tourist has incurred the wrath of the internet for firing a slingshot with lumps of soil and stone while visiting Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand’s Chon Buri province. She was also seen laughing and looking satisfied at herself.
The tourist was filmed by a Thai TikTok user, who posted the clip along with the caption: “That’s not nice!”
The Khao Kheow Open Zoo is home to the super popular baby pygmy hippo-turned-internet star Moo Deng and has seen a sharp rise in visitors lately.
According to reports, the tourist and her family were part of a group of tourists believed to be from China.
The netizen who recorded the tourist said she didn’t confront the woman as she was alone and “there was a big group of them”.
It’s not known if any animals were hurt by her actions but some netizens shared that there is a tiger enclosure near where the tourist was. Others also said that monkeys are often spotted playing in trees around the zoo.
Thai netizens were incensed by what they saw.
They have called for the zoo to pursue legal action against the tourist. They believed that although the tourist did not harm any animals, it was highly inappropriate to be firing a slingshot in the zoo as she could hit other visitors too..
Moo Deng’s caretaker has since taken to Facebook to address the incident.
He wrote that there were “no animals in the area” and that the tourist looked to be “randomly firing the slingshot into an open space”.
He added that the incident would be reported to the zoo’s director, and urged angry netizens to “wait for a detailed inspection” before going ballistic on the tourist.
The zoo will pursue legal action against the tourist if she is found guilty of using the slingshot with the intention of causing harm.
Guess she just slingshotted herself in the foot.
