Students From Geylang Methodist Primary School Have Hilariously Divided Opinions On Whether National Service Is Needed

If there’s one topic that will always get Singaporeans talking, it’s National Service for all young men.

TikToker @lawrenceh_, the same creative mind behind the hilarious Dunman High student’s Labubu street interview, recently posed this question to two Geylang Methodist Primary School students: “Do you think National Service is needed?”

The duo, dressed in their PE uniforms, had amusingly different takes on the topic.

Without hesitation, the first boy answered “no”, before explaining: “Because you waste 20 years of your life.”

“20 years? Not two years meh?” replied Lawrence.

Realising his mistake, the young boy corrected himself, but stood firm on his take though he didn’t elaborate on his reason.

His friend then provided this textbook answer: “I think NS is important. Some people are not fit so during NS we can grow fit and we can train to protect our country when our country is in need of help.”

Cue a dramatic ‘What-are-you-talking-about’ expression from the first boy, who followed up with this question to his friend: “So smart?”

Netizens were entertained by the boys, with many predicting that the second boy will “go to Officer Cadet School”.

“Second boy is sponsored content,” wrote one netizen, while another laughed: “You can tell who will ‘keng’ during NS, and who will go to OCS.”

Many also shared their own takes on NS, with a number saying that the first boy “wasn’t too far from the truth”, considering that NS men will still need to complete 10 years of reservist.

“At least the first boy is honest,” read a comment, while others joked that he “is going to have trouble getting a BTO in the future” because of what he said.

So Singaporean guys reading this, which boy do you agree with?
