Xiaohongshu user Kaysey was recently at Jewel Changi Airport when she spotted a man kneeling in front of the Rain Vortex… and praying.
She later posted a short clip of the man with the caption: “Why is there someone praying at Jewel? It’s my first time seeing someone kowtowing towards the waterfall. Could it be that it has some kind of magical powers?”
The man had his hands outstretched towards the sky, before kowtowing to the seven-storey-tall indoor waterfall several times.
Speaking to Malaysian media WeirdKaya, Kaysey revealed that the man “did not engage in other gestures beyond praying” and was only focused on the waterfall the whole time.
His actions, however, did perplex other visitors and netizens.
Some guessed that he was “filming a video”, while others said that he “was about to go to gamble at Marina Bay Sands casino” and was praying for some luck.
One netizen also commented with a photo of Suntec City’s Fountain of Wealth, saying that he might have mistaken the Rain Vortex for Singapore’s other iconic structure.
Another also believed that he was praying for wealth as “places with abundance of flowing water are known to have good fengshui”.
Did we miss the memo about the Rain Vortex being a hotspot for good luck?
We suppose we’ll find out when we see more people flocking to the Rain Vortex to pray.
