Indian Rojak is similar to Ngoh Hiang in that many stalls today source their ingredients from suppliers and simply deep fry them for customers. This is especially common at 24-hour Indian or Muslim stalls. That’s why it’s always a delight to discover family-run spots like M.A. Hosanna, where most of the items are still handmade at the stall daily!
This stall, located right next to Ya Halimm, which I wrote about previously, is a new stall that opened earlier this year after the coffeeshop’s renovation. It’s run by Mr Sulthan Arif, who came to Singapore from India over 20 years ago. After working in various Indian/Muslim eateries, he finally ventured out to open his own stall.
If you’re curious why an Indian/Muslim stall is called “Hosanna,” which is a popular Christian term, it’s because he named it after his Singaporean niece, who happens to be Catholic! It’s a great reflection of Singapore’s multicultural spirit.
Freshly Made Indian Rojak
Sulthan’s sister, Vijaya, is the master chef behind the fresh flour and lentil items. She prepares them every morning at the stall. They do have a few items like fish cake and ngoh hiang which are procured from a supplier.
It’s been a while since I’ve had such a delightful Indian Rojak. Everything was fresh and crispy, and I particularly enjoyed the lentil and onion fritters! The sauce, made from scratch without any artificial colouring, was excellent! It is far superior to the factory-made versions from suppliers. 4.5/5
The stall also serves roti prata, and theirs is the light, fluffy kind that isn’t overly greasy. While they don’t make the dough from scratch, it is quite good. They offer chicken and fish curries which are rich and flavourful. If you’re craving plaster prata, you’re in for a treat—they cook it to perfection, ensuring the egg yolk remains beautifully runny! 4/5
Conclusion
A fantastic little family-run spot serving up fresh, crispy Indian Rojak made daily! The friendly and hardworking brother-sister duo puts in long hours and are open daily. They only take a random rest day each month. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for delicious Indian Rojak in the Aljunied area!
While you’re there, remember to check out Ya Halimm lontong which is in the same coffee shop.
