Influencer Charlene Huang To Star In Mayiduo’s Movie; Has Her Sights Set On Golden Horse Best Actress Award

Local content creator-slash-businessman Mayiduo has added a new job title to his LinkedIn profile.

Earlier this week, the 32-year-old announced that he will be making his directorial debut with his movie Aunty Like, Aunty Subscribe!.

The movie, about a fishball noodles seller who becomes an influencer, will star comedienne Charlene Huang, who is better known as Aizaiaisteady.

Aunty Like, Aunty Subscribe! is produced by mm2 Entertainment and Double Up, a media agency founded by Mayiduo and Charlene.

“It’s my own movie, so no choice, the female lead can only be me,” joked Charlene in an interview with 8world.

Charlene, who made her big screen debut in Jack Neo’s Ah Girls Go Army (2022), however, has some reservations about her first lead role.

“I’ve acted in a movie before, but I’ve never been the leading actress. Now the box office sales are entirely dependent on me!” said Charlene, who has started going for acting classes.

Charlene, who’s best known for her ‘Hokkien Ah Lian’ persona on social media, went on to share that her role in Aunty Like, Aunty Subscribe! would be completely different from her usual loud self.

“The standard of my acting is going to be as though I’m up for the Golden Horse Best Actress award,” proclaimed Charlene.

She also aims to become the next Golden Horse Best Actress in the region after Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann, who won the award in 2019 for her performance in Anthony Chen’s Wet Season.

Charlene is not at all worried that others would think she’s “undeserving” of her new lead role.

In fact, she thinks negative publicity can help bring more attention to the movie.

“We want people to talk about [my role]. If people think that I’m worthless, when the time comes, I’ll prove my worth!” she said.

Aunty Like, Aunty Subscribe! is slated for release in theatres in 2025.
