A man working for a chemical company in Jiangsu, China was fired after deciding to take a one-hour nap at work.
Now, that seems harsh. Especially because the man, surnamed Zhang, was an employee for 20 years.
Or could it be that the higher-ups were biding their time to find a reason to give him the boot?
The company insisted that Zhang had violated their rules and regulations and defensively added that they had sought the opinion of a labour union before making their decision.
It was later revealed that Zhang was fatigued after driving late the night before. He had even signed a form acknowledging that the company was aware of his actions.
An unhappy Zhang later sued his former employer and went on to win 350K yuan ($69.4K).
After news of the case went viral online, netizens applauded the legal system for being fair to Zhang.
“Firing someone who has worked over 20 years for you over such a small matter just shows what sort of culture they breed there,” read one comment.
