Woman Mistakes Hotpot Restaurant’s Statue For Buddhist Shrine And Prays To It

While we get that some Buddhists take it upon themselves to pray to Buddha’s image each time they see it, some statues hold no religious bearings and are simply part of the landscaping.

In a video that has been seen more than 1.8 million times, a Taiwanese netizen was heard asking, “Auntie, what are you doing?”  as she bowed to what we thought was a Buddhist shrine.

He then later panned to a sign showing that it was part of a hotpot restaurant’s landscaping.

“This is actually a Karuizawa, not a temple!” he snickered.

Karuizawa is a popular Japanese hotpot chain restaurant in Taiwan.

Well, at least she is pious through her actions, right?

It isn’t clear if she was informed about her mistake after the video was taken.

Some netizens came out writing that they were concerned that her praying a decorative statue wouldn’t be effective,

While others have hit back in the comments there was “nothing funny about her actions as she is worshipping Buddha with her entire heart”.
