Those who watched Heavenly King Andy Lau’s 1991 rom com Dances With Dragon would definitely remember that one scene involving a hilarious lobster dress.
Onscreen mother-and-daughter Deanie Yip and Sharla Cheung were at a ball where they were talked down to by Andy’s condescending cousin, played by Weng Hong.
Out of spite, Sharla picked up a lobster from the buffet table and wanted to poke Weng Hong with it, only to accidentally snag the lobster on her mother’s dress.
However, Deanie wasn’t going to let her daughter embarrass herself like that.
She quickly hung the lobster around her neck like a necklace and insisted that her dress was the newest design from an Italian fashion designer named — wait for it — Sit Down Please.
Little did anyone think that the lobster dress would become a real thing 32 years later?
At Italian fashion house Schiaparelli’s Spring 2024 collection show, a model walked the runway in black tube dress embellished with a golden lobster necklace, exactly like how Deanie wore it in the movie three decades ago.
