Singaporeans love our durians. And it seems that some of us may love it so much that we would order $400 worth of durians and take the durians without making payment.
A durian store recently shared about an encounter with a customer, where the customer ordered $400 worth of durians and allegedly failed to make payment for the durians.
Here’s what you need to know about it.
Customer Orders $400 Worth of Durian from Durian Store
On Friday (13 December), He Dingda (hanyu pinyin), the towkay of local durian store at Block 293 Yishun Street 22, Durian Kaki, received a call from a customer at around 11 am.
The customer’s request? An order for ten boxes of Musang King durians, worth about $400 in total.
This just might be the customer from all those primary school math problems.
During the call, the customer had requested for doorstep delivery of the ten durians. According to Shin Min Daily News, the customer also claimed to be a regular customer.
Believing that the customer indeed was a regular customer, the Durian Kaki owner decided to agree to a cash on delivery arrangement with the customer.
In other words, Durian Kaki would take payment for the durians once the durians are delivered.
According to Durian Kaki, it was quite common for regular customers to ask for cash on delivery arrangements.
Little did the durian store know, this customer wasn’t like other regular customers.
Customer Allegedly Takes Durians Without Making Payment
Later in the day, at about 5:45 pm, the ten boxes of Musang King durians were delivered to the address provided by the customer. However, upon reaching the given address, the deliveryman noticed that something was amiss.
The HDB unit at the given address appeared to be uninhabited, with many leaflets stuffed into the door.
The Durian Kaki owner instructed the deliveryman to wait for the customer for a short while. But what the deliveryman did next would prove to be a fatal mistake.
The deliveryman left the boxes of durians at the doorstep of the given address, before heading downstairs to smoke. When he returned to the same HDB unit 12 minutes later, the boxes of durians were gone.
Yes, you read that right. $400 worth of durians placed in front of what seemed to be an uninhabited HDB unit, gone in the mere span of 12 minutes.
Payment was not made for the durians.
Customer Subsequently Blocked the Contact Number of the Durian Store; Durian Store Owner Lodges Police Report
Later, the Durian Kaki owner contacted the customer. However, the customer refused to respond to the durian store, constantly saying that they were busy or on the road.
The customer subsequently blocked the durian store’s contact number as well.
That wasn’t very kaki of the customer. So much for being a “regular” customer.
As such, the Durian Kaki owner decided to lodge a police report, in case the customer was a scammer. The owner also made a Facebook post, warning other durian stores about the customer.
Regardless, the durian store also shared: “We believe in the goodness of people, and while this experience stings, it will not make us lose faith in our valued regulars and new friends alike.”
“We’ll keep offering you the best durians with honesty and respect, because trust is the foundation of what we do,” the store added.
