We finally have an ETA on when Xie Shaoguang is going to be on screen again.
The 62-year-old announced that he’s making his showbiz comeback after almost two decades in September.
At that time, Shaoguang, who is managed by Mediacorp’s talent management arm, The Celebrity Agency (TCA), had yet to accept any upcoming projects.
Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait too long.
It was revealed yesterday (Dec 16) that Shaoguang will be starring in an upcoming Mediacorp drama tentatively titled Last Hurrah.
It will be Shaoguang’s first role since 2005’s Baby Blues and he will be acting opposite Chen Hanwei, 55.
Baby Blues also happened to be the last time Shaoguang and Hanwei appeared in the same drama.
Last Hurrah is slated to air in late 2025 and revolves around two men — a lonely tycoon played by Shaoguang, and a well-loved retiree played by Hanwei.
The two characters bond as they battle terminal cancer and they help each other find meaning in life in their final days.
Last Hurrah will also star Chantalle Ng, Desmond Ng, Xiang Yun, Aileen Tan, Jeremy Chan, Jernelle Oh, Nick Teo and Herman Keh.
Production for the 20-episode drama is set to take place from February to May next year.
What we can’t wait for is the very likely Best Actor toss-up between Shaoguang and Hanwei at Star Awards 2026.
Shaoguang has five Best Actor wins at the Star Awards, a record he held the record for 15 years before being surpassed by Hanwei, who now has seven, in 2019.
Shaoguang previously told 8days.sg that it’s “mean” to suggest that he’s back to take his record back from Hanwei, but let’s see if it actually happens.
After quitting showbiz in 2005 due to burnout from work, Shaoguang went incognito and was ordained as a Buddhist monk in 2013.
He then became a chef in a vegetarian restaurant, and also opened an animal sanctuary in Malaysia.
