Some celebrities would see imitation as a form of flattery but not Edison Chen.
In a recent interview with Taiwanese host Patrick Liu, the 44-year-old Canadian-born Hong Kong star was asked if he cares when others mimic him.
“No I don’t,” Edison tried to brush it off nonchalantly.
Patrick then gave his best imitation of Edison while asking: “Really? You really don’t care?”
Though Edison completely failed to notice that Patrick was copying the way he speaks, he eventually admitted that he used to take it to heart when others mimicked him.
In fact, he once got so upset he directly reached out to the person.
“About five to six years ago, [a Taiwanese guy] imitated me on a Taiwanese variety show. I don’t know why I was so angry that day,” Edison recalled.
“I sent him a direct message and said: ‘Oh, you think you’re very funny? How is this funny? Who said you were funny?’.”
Edison’s wife, Chinese actress Qin Shupei, however, stepped in to call him out for his tantrum.
“She told me what I was doing was wrong, and I was like: ‘Really?’,” laughed Edison.
Realising his mistake, Edison then took the initiative to reach out to the person he had berated.
“I messaged the guy again, saying: ‘I’m just kidding bro! Thank you. I love you’,” chuckled Edison, who added that since that day, began to accept those who impersonate him.
The man really listens to his wife, doesn’t he?
