We’ve heard many stories of May-December relationships, but this has to be the most heartwarming. We think?
A Japanese couple from Shizuoka recently shared their love story on long-running variety show Shinkon-san Irasshai!, translated as Welcome, Newlyweds!.
The man married the woman of his dreams in 2023 after an intense courtship.
He is now 32, while she is 53, which makes her 21 years older than him.
But that is not the only surprising thing. She is also the mum of his former classmate.
Technically, their first encounter was at a parent-teacher meeting in his school days but they had no real connection at the time.
It wasn’t until more than a decade later that they crossed paths again.
The man was immediately captivated by her and began wooing her.
He mustered the courage to invite her to dinner through her daughter.
During the meal, he declared: “I fell in love with you at first sight. Please go out with me!”
Shocked by his bold confession, she rejected him.
Undeterred, he invited her on a date every single day for the next 30 days.
At the time, the woman had just gone through a divorce, and his unwavering affection became an emotional support for her.
She was also touched by his actions.
She had casually mentioned her love for illumination, and within a month, he took her to 40 different illuminations spots.
On their 30th date, he confessed his love once more, but she still rejected him, concerned about her daughter’s feelings and societal judgment.
The turning point came when her daughter sent her a text message: “If I’m the obstacle, don’t worry about me. Just think about your own happiness, mum.”
With her daughter’s blessing, she finally agreed to date him.
However, another major challenge lay ahead — convincing her parents.
Her parents were furious and strongly against the relationship.
To win their approval, he bought a 38mil yen (S$336K) house to prove his commitment.
Seeing his determination, her parents finally relented, and the couple married in 2023.
