When it comes to K-pop, the girls from Blackpink, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa, need no introduction.
After completing a successful world tour in September, the quartet has been taking a break from group activities and focusing on individual endeavours.
Amidst whispers that they are breaking up as a group, all four members recently reunited at one royally cool event.
South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Yeon Hee are currently on a three-day UK state visit, with their first stop the Buckingham Palace. There, they attended a state banquet hosted by King Charles. Invited to the banquet, too, was Blackpink.
They were also recipients of a special shoutout from the King himself.
During his speech, he said: “I applaud Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé, better known collectively as Blackpink, for their role in bringing the message of environmental sustainability to a global audience as Ambassadors for the U.K.’s Presidency of COP 26, and later as advocates for the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. It is extremely inspiring to see Korea’s younger generation’s dedication to these causes.“
He would also go on to praise them for their contribution to Korean culture, saying: “If England has The Beatles, Queen, Harry Potter, and David Beckham’s right foot, then Korea has BTS, Blackpink, Squid Game, and Son Heung Min’s right foot.”
The girls were said to have been surprised when they heard the King mention their names.
On the Internet, netizens were happy to see the four girls in the same frame again, and were amazed at the shoutout they got from King Charles.
“They’re on a totally different level now,” gushed one fans.
