While it is common knowledge that the Marina Bay Street Circuit is blessed by religious leaders every year before F1 season, did you know new MRT stations are also blessed before their opening?
In a video posted to Instagram by Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Low Yen Ling, religious leaders from major faiths in Singapore were seen entering Hume station to perform a blessing ceremony a day before it opened to public late last month.
The station is located along Upper Bukit Timah Road, between Hillview and Beauty World stops on the Downtown Line.
Their prayers extended beyond the station itself, as they also sought blessings for the staff and commuters.
As part of the Inter-Religious Organisation in Singapore, religious leaders and members of different faiths often gather to lead prayers together for national and private occasions.
While many praised Singapore’s religious diversity in the comments, some jokingly (or maybe not) wondered if the prayers included hopes for no train breakdowns.
“Are they chanting, ‘no breakdowns, no breakdowns, no breakdowns’?” one user quipped.
Another chimed in with a cheeky request, “Can we also ask them to also pray for cheaper fares?”
Umm… they aren’t genies who grant wishes.
However, one netizen pointed out, “Let’s be real, no number of prayers can prevent the train from breaking down if they are not maintained properly.”
Well, it’s everyone’s safety that matters first, right?
