A female customer found maggots as an “extra” in her claypot rice.
The FairPrice Group has stated this was an isolated incident and they’ve fully enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures at the affected food center.
Customer’s Shocking Discovery
Lynn told STOMP that she was dining at Senja Hawker Center around 7 PM on the 12th of last month.

After finishing her claypot rice purchased from a stall called Ah Di Claypot, she spotted worms wriggling on the table as she was about to return her tray.
“I think these maggots were originally hiding under the aluminum foil at the bottom of the claypot. They fell out when I picked up the pot. There were definitely no maggots on the tray before,” she said.
According to the video she provided, numerous maggots were wriggling on the hawker center table, with some even crawling onto the tray.
Lynn said she notified a stall employee, but a female staff member only said she would inform her assistant and didn’t come to check.
“I also told the cleaner, who asked me to leave everything there and said someone would clean it up later.”
Food Agency Inspection Finds Violations
Senja Hawker Center is operated by Kopitiam, which falls under the FairPrice Group.
A spokesperson for the FairPrice Group responded to the Shin Min Daily News inquiry by stating that Kopitiam’s top priority has always been providing customers with a safe and clean dining environment.
To prevent similar incidents, the group has strengthened inspection of all stalls to make sure hygiene standards are strictly followed.

They’ve also completely enhanced the cleaning and disinfection process for the entire food center.
“For this incident involving an individual stall, we immediately conducted a thorough inspection and contacted the affected customer. The stall in question has received a warning.”
A spokesperson from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) told the Shin Min Daily News that authorities inspected the stall and found no pest problems.
However, during the inspection, they discovered other food safety violations and will take enforcement action against the stall.
“We have ordered the food operator to keep their premises clean and hygienic, and have required food handlers to strictly follow safe operating procedures.”

The SFA emphasized that they have zero tolerance for food safety issues and will thoroughly investigate all related complaints.
During investigations, the SFA may contact complainants for more details. Once sufficient evidence is gathered, immediate action will be taken.
