Taiwanese rocker Shin, 52, is known for his impressive vocal range and is oft-recognised as one of Mandopop’s top powerhouse singers.
In 2002, Shin and his band released the now classic rock anthem ‘Love Overcomes Everything’ (死了都要愛) and the song would go on to launch the singer to superstardom around Asia.
Although Shin left the band 2007 to embark on a solo career, ‘Love Overcomes Everything’ remains a karaoke staple despite its final boss difficulty level for anyone who attempts to sing it.
Shin recently performed at a music festival in China, where he decided to greet the audience by belting out the classic tune as his first song.
However, it proved too challenging, even for its original singer.
Shin was heard going out of tune as the song progressed towards its chorus and he unfortunately did not manage to hit the high notes.
His voice cracked as he tried his hardest to find the elusive right key, the veins in his neck and forehead popping out from the effort.
Thankfully, he was able to take the embarrassment in his stride.
After he finished the song, Shin stuck out his tongue, laughed, and acknowledged that it wasn’t one of his best moments.
“My mistake! I shouldn’t have chosen this as my first song. It’s too funny. Where did I get the confidence for… singing this song first?”
The clip of Shin’s performance has since gone viral online, with many netizens laughing at his pitchy delivery and his self-deprecating humour.
“This song is really difficult, and it gets harder to sing with age. But it’s great that he used humour to deal with it,” wrote one netizen.
Well, even the best singers have their off days, right?
