“You Have To Cut Off Things That Are A Waste Of Time”: Kevin Cheng On Why He’s Been MIA At Gatherings With A Fistful of Stances Cast

It’s no secret that Hong Kong stars Kevin Cheng, Kenneth Ma, Natalie Tong, Stephen Wong and Jazz Lam became very close buds after starring in 2010 TVB series A Fistful of Stances.

Last month, Natalie, 42, also took to her Instagram to share a picture taken at their most recent gathering.

However, netizens seem to have realised that the group’s “big brother” Kevin, 54, has been MIA from all their recent get-togethers.

In fact, the last time Kevin met up with his Fistful fam was in 2021. He also didn’t turn up for Stephen’s wedding with Hong Kong photographer Samantha Kong last year.

Unsurprisingly, netizens have speculated that Kevin might have fallen out with the rest of the gang, in particular Kenneth, 49.

So what does Kevin have to say in response to these rumours?

When speaking to Hong Kong media HK01 at an awards ceremony in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday (Nov 30), Kevin, who has three sons Rafael, four, Yannick, two, and Carlos, one, with Hong Kong actress Grace Chan, explained that he might have drifted apart from the rest as he now has a family.

On top of that, the pandemic could have played a part in him becoming distant.

“It’s partly also because we’ve all reached a certain point in our lives. We only have 24 hours a day, how do you want to use them? At a certain point you will understand that you need to cut off things that are a waste of time and focus on things that are worthwhile,” he added.

Kevin also shared that he’s actually not a fan of rowdy gatherings.

“I like it quiet. I grew up alone and my sister wasn’t with me so I’m used to [being by myself]. I’m not scared of being lonely too. In fact, now I have to learn to get used to noisy situations, but those can be happy too,” explained the actor.

Does that mean he’s selective about who gets to be noisy around him?

“That’s right, you mentioned the most important part. Only if you want to be rowdy with this person, then you should do it,” said Kevin.

What about his so-called “beef” with Kenneth then?

Kevin replied: “We’ve known each other for so many years, there’s no such thing as not getting along. I think those who are familiar with us would understand. People have to do different things at different points in life. When he reaches that point he will also understand that some things need to be given up.”

Will he at least be attending Kenneth’s wedding with Roxanne Tong later this month though? The wedding will be held at a Southeast Asian country that has not been revealed to the public yet.

“If I have to leave [home] for a while, then that might be a little tough,” he said.

Guess that answers it.
