Charmaine Sheh Becomes First 3-Time Best Actress Winner At TVB Anniversary Awards

Charmaine Sheh has done it again.

While everyone knew that the 48-year-old actress was bound to win something for her stellar performance in hit 2023 TVB drama The Queen Of News at the TVB Anniversary Awards, he winning three awards at the event last night (Jan 14) was still a surprise.

At the ceremony, which took place at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort in Macau, Charmaine, who played the cut-throat news anchor Man Wai Sam in the drama, was named Best Actress, Malaysia’s Most Favourite Lead Actress and the Greater Bay Area’s Most Favourite Lead Actress making her the biggest winner of the night. Oh, she also went home with the Best Dressed Female Artiste trophy too.

This makes Charmaine the first actress to have won Best Actress at the TVB Anniversary Awards three times. She previously won in 2006 for Maidens’ Vow and in 2014 for Line Walker

Prior to this, Charmaine was tied with Liza Wang, Sheren Tang and Nancy Wu, who have each won the award twice.

When speaking to the media after the ceremony, Charmaine shared that she still felt like she was in a dream.

“My heart is still beating so fast. Actually I haven’t calmed down yet. I’m really thankful towards everyone for giving me such a memorable night today. I definitely won’t forget everything that happened tonight,” she gushed.

When asked about The Queen of News clinching eight awards, Charmaine said: “I’m so happy! On top of winning Best Drama, the other cast members also won so everyone was really happy.”

The other awards won by the drama included Best Supporting Actress for Samantha Ko, Malaysia’s Most Favourite Lead Actor, which went to Kenneth Ma, Greater Bay Area’s Most Favourite Series and Best TV Song.

“It’s the first time Samanth had won something. I couldn’t help but cry. I was so happy for her,” said the actress.

Charmaine added that she lost count of the number of times she cried last night.

“I don’t know what was going on. I was so touched. Maybe it’s because it’s been so long since I attended the TVB Anniversary Awards and everyone was so familiar. This feeling is very different, and I recalled so many things from the past,” she explained.

The last time Charmaine graced the event was in 2014, the same year she received her second Best Actress award.
