36-Year-Old Fiancée Of HK Actor Lee Lung Kei, 73, Arrested For Overstaying In Hong Kong And Faking Academic Qualifications

Earlier this week, the 36-year-old fiancée of Hong Kong veteran actor Lee Lung Kei,  73, was arrested for overstaying in Hong Kong, and for forging her university degrees in order to acquire an entry permit.

Lung Kei’s fiancée, Chris Wang Qing Xia, is an artist from Mainland China. It was revealed that she had falsely claimed to have studied abroad since the age of 10 at various established institutions.

She was charged with six counts in court, including accusations of overstaying and forgery, and has been denied bail. The next hearing for her case will take place on April 16.

Lung Kei, who was on a work trip in Guangzhou, immediately returned to Hong Kong upon hearing the news of Chris’ arrest. He had to report to the Tai Lam Correctional Institution, where Chris is currently being held, to verify his identity in order to visit her.

Lung Kei arrived at the correctional institution yesterday (Feb 21) at 11am, and according to reports, burst into tears when he saw the media.

When asked about what he would do should Chris be found guilty, Lung Kei said: “There’s no choice. [We] have to accept reality. Chris’ family is not aware of her current situation.”

He added: “I was keeping tabs on Chris’ case, but I was not expecting it to be so serious. I thought she was only [caught for]  overstaying, and that it was a small matter. I was completely unaware that her certificates were forged. I had never seen any of those documents. I always believed the things she tells me. As her fiancé, if I don’t trust her and check on everything, it would be very disrespectful to her. I choose to believe everything she says.”

When asked if he was upset with his fiancee, Lung Kei simply expressed regret that she did not discuss her problems with him. He also said nothing would change their agreement to get married.

If Chris is found guilty, she could be fined up to HKD50K (S$8.6K), and jailed up to two years.
