CapMetro surveying Austinites on future MetroBike expansion

AUSTIN (KXAN) — CapMetro is seeking Austinites’ input on where future MetroBike stations and services could expand to down the road.

The transit authority rolled out a community survey to learn more about how users currently interact with MetroBikes, what services or features would make them want to use the electric bikes more, where they’d like to see future expansion sites and if there are any barriers or issues preventing use of the service.

It comes more than a month after CapMetro announced a nearly $21 million investment into MetroBike operations. The 10-year initiative aims to triple to number of MetroBike stations, docks and bicycles in operation, with a specific focus on expanding access beyond downtown Austin.

In addition to those expansions, efforts also eye transitioning the MetroBike fleet to electric-assist vehicles. As of early February, only about 43% of the fleet incorporated electric-assist bikes.

Those interested can participate in the survey online through March 29.
