“I Felt Like I Won A Competition!”: Singapore Idol Runner-Up Jonathan Leong On Wife Jeneen Goh Getting Pregnant After Going Through IVF For 2 Years

According to Jonathan, they were practical about their chances and that even if IVF didn’t give them their desired result, they would have just happily moved on.

“I probably would have gone on to adopt another dog,” says Jon, whose beloved pooch Toto passed away in 2015.

Well, it seems that a new pup would have to wait because the Leongs are due to welcome their baby girl (yes, they are having a girl!) in May this year.

Though the couple were naturally ecstatic, both had different initial thoughts when they saw the much-awaited ‘blue cross’ on the pregnancy test kit.

While Jeneen says she was “a little nervous”, Jonathan felt like a real winner.

“I always lean towards expecting a good result and when I saw the blue cross, I felt like I won a competition!” he laughs.

For all the good news and excitement, the couple shares with 8days.sg that they didn’t expect the IVF journey to be as tough as it was.

In fact, when we ask what their biggest misconception of IVF was, Jonathan reveals that he thought the process would be “smooth and simple”, and both of them would be able to lead normal lives.

Wait… what?

“Yeah… I still thought anyone could carry on working. I think it is also due to my personality where I always think I can juggle five, 10, 15 things at once,” he replies sheepishly.

Jeneen also initially shared Jonathan’s carefree sentiments on IVF.

“It is a good thing I didn’t go and find out too much about the side effects. The body goes through quite a bit of changes though thankfully, I don’t think my mood was too affected,” she says.

The couple also say that if they want another kid, IVF would probably not be on the cards.

“For me, it’s a no. I am already 42,” Jeneen quickly replies when asked on the idea of another child.

Jonathan agrees and says he “wouldn’t want to put her through it again,” and cites finances as another contributing factor.
