Japanese ICT company, Fujitsu has confirmed that its systems were infected by malware and an internal investigation reveals that the hackers may have stolen customer information and personal data.
The company disconnected the affected business computers after confirming the presence of malware.
“We confirmed the presence of malware on several of our company’s work computers, and as a result of an internal investigation, it was discovered that files containing personal information and customer information could be illegally taken out,” mentions the company’s statement.
According to Fujitsu, it is investigating how networks were compromised by malware and “whether information has been leaked”.
Headquartered in Japan, Fujitsu has about 124,000 employees and serves government and private sector customers globally.
The company has provided individual notifications to affected parties.
It has informed the Personal Information Protection Commission to ensure regulatory compliance and safeguarding against potential data misuse.
Fujitsu said that to date, it has “not received any reports” that personal information or information about customers has been misused.
