Chinese transgender host Jin Xing, 56, has remarried her German ex-husband Heinz Gerd Oidtmann 18 years after they first split.
The couple had “reluctantly divorced” in 2006 after a year of marriage for the sake of Jin Xing’s three kids, whom she adopted before she met Heinz.
As Heinz is German, Jin Xing’s two sons and daughter would have problems getting their hukou, or household registration, in China. This allows them to be regarded as Chinese citizens and enrol in school in Shanghai where they are based.
So the couple had no choice but to get a divorce, but continued living together.
They agreed to remarry once the issue with their kids’ household registration was resolved.
Well, 18 years later, the day has finally come.
On April 11, Jin Xing took to Weibo to announce the good news, writing: “After 18 years, we re-registered our marriage and also witnessed our journey of love and responsibility. Today is also Heinz’s birthday, so it’s double the joy! I also wish that those who are destined to be together will finally reunite. You need to experience everything life gives you!”
