Just last month, Mediacorp actress Kym Ng told #JustSwipeLah that she’d rather win Best Actress at Star Awards 2024 instead of Best Host because that’s what she “lacks”.
And indeed, Kym earned her first Best Actress trophy at the Star Awards ceremony, which was held at The Theatre at Mediacorp tonight (Apr 21).
She won it for her performance as the ghost of a deceased funeral director who has 49 days to settle her worries in Till The End.
Prior to this, the versatile actress-host has bagged four Best Variety Show Host wins (1998, 1999, 2011 and 2013) and two Best Supporting Actress wins for When Duty Calls (2018) and My Guardian Angels (2021).
When 8days.sg meets Kym backstage to ask her about her victory, the garrulous star, who is wearing a shimmery white dress and bejewelled high-heels, immediately pleads: “Can we sit down for a while? [My feet] Are very painful”.
Apart from her tormented feet, her stomach is growling as well.
“I don’t know how I’m going to celebrate, but I haven’t had dinner for two days,” she laments. “So tonight when I go back I’ll probably go to the Zion Road food centre to buy char kway teow ‘cos I’m so hungry,” she tells us.
Kym is probably craving something sweet as well, considering how she abstained from sugary treats for a week.
“I usually eat cake every day, or at least I have a dessert every meal. I just don’t take sweet drinks but it’s still very bad lah,” she laughs.
The actress, who tells us she is partial to kueh or the pandan cheesecake from Bengawan Solo, then quips that she will go “all out on an eating spree” once the award show is over.
When asked if she was confident about winning, Kym humbly confesses that she “didn’t even dare to like” the awards predictions story that 8days.sg did last week, before praising that our “predictions were so accurate”.
“I saw the story and my fan club, Kym Ng Forever, reposted it as well. But I didn’t dare to like it because it would seem like I’m agreeing that I’m going to win,” she explains. “It made me very stressed so I only liked it in my heart.”
Did winning make her feel better about breaking her arm and going on MC for five weeks while filming Till The End?
Immediately responding with a chuckle, Kym says: “I don’t wish to say that because I don’t want anyone to think they have to break an arm or leg to be recognised.”
“But yah, if we have to say that, okay, it’s considered a good reward [for it],” she chuckles, adding that when the incident happened she had felt mostly guilt.
“I didn’t think it was a bad omen, I just thought that I was too careless and felt bad for delaying the entire filming progress. It was a horrible feeling.”
