Ah Boys To Men actor Ryan Lian arrested for allegedly tampering with lock at Telok Blangah flat

Singaporean actor Ryan Lian, famous for his roles in Ah Boys To Men 4 and Money No Enough 3, was arrested on Sunday (Sep 15) after he was filmed attempting to pry open an electronic lock of a Telok Blangah resident’s home.

The resident, a 30-year-old nurse named Laura, was out having a meal with her family when she was alerted by her phone, saying that someone had pressed her doorbell. Checking the feed of the security camera placed outside her gate, Laura saw a shirtless man fiddling with her gate and successfully opening the lock.

She added that the man had wanted to open the electronic lock of her wooden door but hesitated and turned away. He also ran into Laura’s helper who wasn’t aware of what had happened.

“My helper didn’t realise that the man wanted to open our door. Fortunately, he didn’t carry a weapon and didn’t hurt anyone,” said Laura in an interview with publication Shin Min Daily News.

Laura then asked her husband to call the police and alerted her neighbours of the incident via her community chat group.

Police have confirmed receiving a report at 11.25am and arresting one person under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act.

In a separate interview with 8world, Laura said: “From the video, it seems that his behaviour is not in a good mental state… Fortunately, he is not violent. I don’t know what his intention was. There were some packages outside the neighbour’s house, but he did not take them away.”

Lian had previously opened up about his mental health struggles. In 2022, he told Shin Min about his bout with depression for three years. He also opened up to Lianhe Zaobao revealing it as the reason for pulling out of the show When Duty Calls 2 back then.

CNA Lifestyle has reached out to Lian for comments.
