Lead cast: Park Jung-min, Jisoo
Following a quiet spell, Korean zombies are back and as bloody as ever in the zombie romcom Newtopia. Though whether you will be happy at their return will depend largely on your tolerance for slapstick comedy.
Park Jung-min (Hellbound) and Blackpink member Jisoo star as a long-term couple who break up, only to try and find their way back into each other’s arms just as a zombie apocalypse breaks out across Seoul.
So far, so Shaun of the Dead, and Newtopia’s indulgence in stylised and heavily edited comedy does nothing to dispel this sense of deja vu.
Like Simon Pegg’s Shaun, Park’s Lee Jae-yoon is a juvenile late bloomer, with no job and no university degree, looked down upon by those around him.
