We get the panic parents will feel when their child wanders off in public but should they call the police right away?
Yesterday (Aug 5), ex-Mediacorp host Kate Pang, 41, shared that she and her husband Andie Chen were on their way to watch the NDP rehearsal at the Padang with their two children — Aden, 10, and Avery, eight.
The family, who has been based in Taipei since 2020, returned to Singapore in July so the kids could try out primary school for a month.
However, before they even made it to the show, the family had to deal with a nerve-racking episode which completely freaked Andie out.
Sharing a pic of Avery crying in her Instagram Stories, Kate revealed that their young daughter had failed to keep up with the rest of the family while they were squeezing through the crowd in a mall, and ended up lost.
Andie panicked when he could not find her and called the police for help.
“Once the policeman heard that our child was missing, he immediately asked [Andie] to provide photos of her and provide clues for the investigation,” she recalled.
But that was also when Kate happened to locate Avery.
“Luckily at the same time, I saw this young girl who was already scared to tears. Thankfully we didn’t waste anymore resources,” wrote Kate.
The actress also shared that her son tried to console his sister, telling her not to cry ‘cos her hair would get messy and that she should take deep breaths.
However, all Avery did was to push her brother away.
Kate went on to praise the Singapore Police Force for their efficiency.
“This made me feel very safe to be living on this land,” she wrote, before giving a shout out to her daughter.
“Even though you don’t have to worry too much about your safety here in Singapore, I hope you won’t get too distracted [and stray off] whenever you are outside,” warned Kate.
