Andy Lau Nearly Falls Off 4m-High Platform During Shanghai Concert

Heavenly King Andy Lau kicked off his Today… Is The Day tour last Friday (July 5) at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai.

Covering more than 30 of his most memorable hits over two-and-a-half hours, the show wasn’t without controversy.

While singing the 2002 hit ‘Practice’, Andy was seen sliding on his knees toward the edge of an unbarricaded platform approximately 4 meters off the ground.

Videos of the incident saw the singer teetering precariously on the edge.

Yikes!

Thankfully, Andy managed to ‘brake’ in time.

Many netizens took to the comments saying the situation was reminiscent of the 1993 tragedy involving Wong Ka Kui, the lead singer Cantopop band Beyond.

He fell to his death from a three-meter-high stage while filming a variety show in Japan.

In another mishap on stage, Andy didn’t notice a descending lift as he was accompanying a female dancer and stepped onto the platform that could have dragged him down.

During his July 6 concert, Andy brought up the previous night’s incidents, apologising to fans for startling them.

“I’m sorry I did a dangerous move last night. I didn’t expect it to be so slippery,” he said.

Apologising again, he “hopes everyone can forgive [him] for not being careful” before promising that he will take better care of himself.

Netizens have taken to commenting on Andy’s Instagram asking him not to do  dangerous stunts for future shows, with some reminding him about his 2017 accident during a commercial shoot that left him with pelvic injuries.

It kept him out of action for more than six months.

According to netizens who attended the July 6 show, Andy has canceled the dangerous stunt, simply kneeling on the stage during the segment.

Andy is slated to perform at the Singapore Indoor Stadium later this year in October though it is not known how many shows will be staged here.

He last performed in Singapore in 2019 for his My Love World Tour also at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
