The list of nominees for Star Awards 2024 was announced yesterday (Feb 22), and those who are up for awards have since taken to their socials to celebrate.
Among the posts, it was Joanne Peh’s that tickled us most.
The 40-year-old is nominated for Best Actress for her performance in 2023 Mediacorp action-thriller drama SHERO. She is up against Chantalle Ng, Jernelle Oh, Kym Ng and Rui En.
Joanne, who played a grief-stricken bodyguard searching for her missing sister in the drama, wrote: “The biggest challenge for my character in SHERO was maintaining consistency in the emotional journey as filming spanned four months across Singapore and Australia. I enjoyed being a part of this project and it’s an honour to be nominated for this year’s Star Awards”.
Joanne, who has won Best Actress twice — the first in 2009 for The Little Nyonya then in 2012 for A Tale of 2 Cities — then went on to give everyone a really creative reason as to why she should bring the award home this year.
“Since the ceremony this year is going to be held on my son’s birthday, I think I deserve a trophy — for pushing him out 7 years ago. What say you?,” she quipped, with three cry-laughing emojis and the hashtag “pushpresent”.
Joanne welcomed her son, Qi Didi, who’s now six years old, with Qi Yuwu in 2017. The couple, who tied the knot in 2014, also have an eight-year-old daughter Baby Qi.
Joanne’s post also received many comments from her colleagues to congratulate her on her nomination.
“So happy to have been nominated alongside you,” commented Chantalle, who’s nominated for her performance in Mediacorp drama All That Glitters.
Meanwhile, Joanne’s SHERO co-star Romeo Tan gushed: “So happy to see that you’ve been nominated! You can do this!”
So let’s wait till Apr 21 to see if Joanne really brings this belated push present home, shall we?
Catch the Backstage LIVE event of Star Awards 2024 from 3.30pm – 10.30pm on mewatch or Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel on April 21 (Sunday).
The Walk Of Fame will be from 5pm – 6.30pm, on mewatch, Ch 8, Ch U, and Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel on the same day.
It will be followed by the Star Awards 2024 Live Show from 7pm – 10pm on mewatch, Ch 8, Ch U, and Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel.
The repeat telecast for the Walk of Fame and Award Ceremony will air on Ch 8 from 2pm – 6.30pm on April 28 (Sunday).
