Cecilia Cheung To Sue Ex-Manager For Writing Song That Hints She Called Herself A Dog & For Defaming Her In Interview

Cecilia Cheung’s high-profile fallout with her ex-manager Yu Yuk Hing has been in the public eye since 2020, when her former agency Asia Entertainment Group (AEG) Limited and Yuk Hing sued her for HK$12.76mil (S$2.2mil) for allegedly breaching contract.

At that time, Yuk Hing claimed Cecilia, now 44, agreed to star in four movies from 2011 to 2019, but eventually failed to do so even though she was already paid in advance. Hence, they were seeking compensation from Cecilia for lost earnings and damages.

Last year, it was revealed that the Hong Kong High Court held a conference to discuss the lawsuit though the final jury has not been announced yet.

It seems Yuk Hing can’t bear to keep mum while waiting for the court’s final decision.

Recently, he released a song, titled ‘Yi Quan Zhi Ming’, which roughly translates to “In The Name Of A Dog”, which is seen as a diss at Cecilia.

In his song, he first chastised someone for having really good acting skills and thick skin, and scandals “thicker than a book”.

“Whose skin is thicker than yours? You don’t even blink when you lie. Even a dog would feel shy, frown and wag his tail to pretend he’s nice,” read the lyrics.

Yuk Hing also claimed this person had likened themselves to a loyal dog, and pleaded for his help while claiming they would “stay by [his] side no matter what”.

When the media reached out to Yuk Hing about his lyrics, he admitted that there is indeed a story to tell.

He claimed he decided to help Cecilia tide over her hardships in 2011 as he thought was the right thing to do. But now, all he feels is disappointment at that decision.

He also claimed that a certain someone once called themselves a loyal dog to win his sympathy and trust, and that was the reason he chose to fork out a HK$40mil (S$6.9mil) deposit for them within three days. He did not reveal what the deposit was for.

Yuk Hing said he vividly remembers every scenario and conversation from that period, but is unable to go into the details as it involves an influential person.

During the interview, Yuk Hing also shared that he was disappointed and angry about his experience working with Cecilia, and went on to describe her as an “ingrate who burned bridges after using [him]”.

He even said that Hong Kong media personality Stephen Shiu once warned him about how Cecilia is a backstabber and predicted that they would end up in a lawsuit, which, according to Yuk Hing, turned out to be “spot on”.

Cecilia has since responded to the accusations through an official statement from her agency (Jun 2).

They averred that whatever Yuk Hing said was false and defamatory, and that the accusations he made in his lyrics and the interview have had negative impact on Cecilia’s reputation.

The statement also posited that, in 2014, Yuk Hing, as her manager, had signed a contract on behalf of Cecilia without her consent. Cecilia had issued a lawyer’s letter to parties involved regarding said incident.

Cecilia’s agency will be taking legal action against Yuk Hing, and a Xiao Hong Shu account named Yu Sheng Xiang Ban. They will be asking the owner of said account, who is believed to be Yuk Hing, for compensation as well as a public apology.

They also warned media parties to stop disseminating any songs or information that could defame Cecilia or they would be taking legal action against them as well.
