Chinese actor Wang Xing, 31, best known for his appearances in mainland dramas The Tale of Rose, Under The Skin 2, and Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red-Moon Pact, has gone missing.
On January 5, Jia Jia, a woman who claims to be Wang Xing’s girlfriend, posted a screenshot detailing the situation.
According to her, on December 24, Wang Xing received a message from a friend about a casting call. The friend supposedly worked for GMM Grammy, the largest media empire in Thailand.
Wang Xing sent his friend a demo reel of his acting and passed the auditions. But the actor began to have doubts regarding the shoot location on Dec 30 and wished to pull out of the production. However, his friend insisted it was too late to find a replacement for him.
Wang Xing had no choice but to leave for the shoot on January 2.
He departed from Shanghai and arrived at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport the next morning.
He boarded a car arranged by his friend and was told he would be heading to a hotel near where the show’s lensing ceremony was held. Wang Xing and a Thai driver were the only people in the vehicle.
Wang Xing kept in contact with Jia Jia throughout the journey. She was told that they were headed towards Mae Sot, a district in Thailand that shares a border with Myanmar. At 11.30am, Wang Xing was asked to get in another car.
He sent Jia Jia an SOS message at noon and has been uncontactable since.
Jia Jia and Wang Xing’s younger brother have sought help from the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau, the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, and China’s Consulate-General in Chiangmai. They have also arrived in Thailand, where they filed a missing person case on January 6.
Jia Jia also revealed that while gathering information for the case, she encountered actors who were contacted in the same way Wang Xing was. They were approached by the same group of people, but did not go through with the job as they found the process sketchy.
“This is a serious matter, and there are many concerns. I still have details and evidence that I have not made public. I will move forward with the information I have when I find someone who can really assist me with this,” she wrote.
Wang Xing’s former co-stars and showbiz pals including Shu Qi, Chen Kun, Qin Lan, Lay Zhang, and Wang Ta Lu have also shared the news on their social media pages, praying for Wang Xing’s safe return.
