A Chinese man has gone viral for his unexpected display of, um, flexibility on an escalator.
A commuter was on her way to a subway station in Hangzhou when she saw a middle-aged man doing the splits on the escalator.
Like a gymnast balancing on the parallel bars, the man propped both legs up on either side of the escalator handrails, and remained in that position for the entire ride down.
“Uncle, are you too free? This is really dangerous,” wrote the netizen in her post. She also warned others to “not imitate the man’s actions”.
Aside from the obvious safety risks — he could have slipped and seriously injured himself — his actions were also, in our opinion, very unhygienic.
Why put your shoes on something that’s meant for others to hold?
The man’s stunt left netizens both amused and frustrated.
“He’s not sitting or standing, what on earth is he doing?” one person questioned, while another quipped: “I really feel like kicking him.”
Others also criticised him for blocking others from passing and setting a bad example for children.
“I would have pressed the stop button for the escalator,” read one merciless comment.
Someone point him to the nearest fitness corner, please.
